I'm using Mod Organizer 2 for this. It will be different in the Vortex Launcher.

To start you should first download SKSE from this page. Download Current Anniversary Edition build 2.1.5 (game version 1.6.353). Once downloaded, extract the folder and copy it over your Skyrim Special Edition game directory.

First you go to Nexus Mods FNIS page to download the files. There are two versions of the FNIS mod, the normal one and the XXL one. Either works it just depends how many mods you are installing. The regular one has a 10.000 animation limit.

Click the mod manager download buttons for these files.

  • FNIS Behaviour 7.6
  • FNIS Creature Pack 7.6
  • FNIS Spells 7.0

The mods will be downloaded into Mod Organiser 2 and it should look something like this.

Once they have all downloaded it's time to install them.

FNIS Behaviour 7.6

Right click the first one and select install. You will get a popup screen showing you a dialog that something is off.

the content of M does not look valid. To fix this you have unfold the module and select the correct directory.

Click Set as directory and you should be up and running for the first one.

FNIS Creature Pack 7.6

The proces for this one is exactly the same. Right click install and set the data directory. I do give it a different name so that you don't have to merge the modules.

FNIS Spells 7.0

For this one you don't have to set the data directory.  I just give it a different name so that yodon't have to merge the modules.

Enabling FNIS Modules

Just check the boxes in front of the modules to enable them for the current game.

Generating FNIS Animations

The last step is to enable the FNIS generator. In the right top corner you can see a drop-down where you can add the FNIS Generator.

Click on Edit and the following popup will appear:

Click the little plus icon and select add a file. Go into the data\tools directory and select the executable.

You can click ok and there will be a new program in the right top dropdown.

Click run next to it and the program will open.Click the yellow button called Update FNIS Behavior and it will loop through all installed mods and update their animations.
Now you are set to use FNIS mods in your Skyrim.
